Silver sat there on his roof, like he usually did when he wanted to think. He never should have taken that job. Now he's in way over his head. Or maybe he should've just minded his own business. But now that he knows... he's gotta do something, right?

"Hey."

He turned to see Lii. Also on the roof.

"How'd you get up here?" He asked.

"Your mom told me I'd find you here. She let me use your room window."

She sat down next to him.

"This is a nice view." She smiled.

Silver mumbled something, but he didn't even know what he was saying.

"Are you... doing okay, Silver?"

"Yeah. Just surviving."

"You seem like you have something on your mind."

He sighed lay down on the roof. "I always have something on my mind."

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

He thought about it for a moment. Should he tell someone else? She wouldn't understand. But it might help. He was indecisive as usual.

She took his silence as a no. She lay down as well, staring at the darkening sky.

A long moment passed between them. "I, um..." He broke the silence. "I'm just having a hard time at work."

She leaned on her elbow to look at him.

"We deal with time travel and stuff." He continued.

"Oh, yeah. You work at that anti-paradox and time abuse place, right?"

"Yeah. Um..." He teared up a little. "I've said too much"

He stood up and walked towards the window.

"Wait." Lii grabbed his hand. He turned back. Her hand was warm. "If you need to let it out... I won't tell a soul."

He didn't know why, but he wanted to tell her. He sat down again, letting go of her hand. He wished he didn't.

There was silence again as he tried to gather his thoughts. She didn't rush him.

"I've seen my own death." A small gasp. "About 144 times. I've become desensitized to it."

"Silver, I'm..."

"It's fine, it really is. They weren't technically me. They were alternate timelines and stuff. it's just kinda... weird to mourn yourself. Plus, um... that's a fibonacci number. So thats cool."

Lii gave Silver a hug. He kinda sat there, stiff. "I didn't know you were going through this. If you need anything-"

"Thanks, Lii. This helped." He gave a little smile. She responded with her big beautiful smile.

Maybe he should've been honest. Maybe he should've told her that everything she knows is wrong. But for now, a huge weight was lifted off his chest.

Too bad they just weren't meant to be.
